Overview
Cairo - Egypt
The Arab Knowledge Project (AKP) is a partnership between the UNDP and Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Project underwent major changes by late 2014 and early 2015. The Arab Knowledge Report series was concluded with the release of the third Arab Knowledge Report, and a new phase of the project -and the partnership- started with the announcement of the Arab Knowledge Index and the Arab Knowledge Portal, Knowledge4all. This was officially embraced in the new partnership agreement that was officially signed in November 2015, extending the partnership for five additional years [2016-2020].

The launch of the Index and Portal took place on December 7-9 in Dubai, during the Knowledge Summit that was attended by more than 1000 invitees, led by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

As part of its new phase, the AKP will be developing the second Arab Knowledge Index, a summary measure that best reflects knowledge accumulation, production and consumption from a development perspective, taking into consideration the specific socio-cultural context, needs and challenges of the Arab region. In addition to the six key sections that Arab Knowledge Index focused on in 2015, the enhanced Arab Knowledge Index will also be focusing on reading and will be consacrating a big part of the Index for that.

As part of the preparation phase of building the second version of the AKI, and following the preceding meetings held, the AKP will be holding its third meeting to follow-up on the progress achieved by the core team members in the development of the Arab Knowledge Index.
