Overview
Beirut - Lebanon
With the aim to promote collective action against corruption, ACIAC in cooperation with the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network (ACINET) held a regional workshop in Beirut from 30-31 March 2017 for the “Non-Governmental Group” in ACINET. The workshop gathered more than 15 non-governmental organizations from Tunisia, Yemen, Lebanon, Kuwait, Bahrein, Iraq, Jordan and Morocco to share updates on anti-corruption efforts and discuss strengths and weaknesses of collective action approaches in the context of the region, and exchange on related good practices and lessons learned from their own experiences, identifying related opportunities and threats for future action. The workshop enabled participants to interact directly with each other on the latest developments in promoting integrity and combating corruption in their countries. The workshop also included a training session on a common understanding of the “Collective Action”. The workshop ended by designing an initiative that promotes collective action in three main areas: developing legislation and simplifying procedures, conducting social audits in specific sectors important for the SDGs, and organizing training and awareness campaigns focusing on youth.
