The non governmental group on the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network held a regional workshop in Amman on 12-13 July 2017 under the title "Strengthening the Role of Society against Corruption: Challenges and Entry Points" in cooperation with Jordan Transparency Center, UNDP and the participation of most members of the group and selected experts and guests.
The meeting came in the context of the follow-up to the conclusions of the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Arab Network (Tunisia, 5-7 September 2016) and is based on the previous workshop (Beirut, 30-31 March 2017), where participants exchanged updates on enhancing integrity and combating corruption in their countries , and defined the concept of "collective action" and its importance and means of application in this area, in line with other efforts, especially those related to the development of legislation and simplification of procedures, and the conduct of community supervision, and the organization of training campaigns and awareness, where the assembled at the time a set of perceptions.
Accordingly, the regional workshop aimed to achieve two main objectives:
A. Prepare the members of the group to contribute more effectively to the review and support of the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption under phase II of the international review mechanism adopted for this purpose.
B. Developing the capacity of group members as key partners in the collective action to promote transparency and accountability in the sectors that are most vulnerable to corruption.
The meeting also provides an opportunity for the participants to discuss relevant developments at the regional level and how to deal with them, as well as to consider some organizational issues related to non-governmental group members.
